Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) provides live text of spoken communication as an event takes place. Languages Translation Services (LTS), established in 2004, arranges CART captioning for meetings, conferences, classes, hearings, webinars, and other events, subject to availability and the required technical setup.
Where CART captioning can help
- Schools and universities: Educational meetings, classes, presentations, and seminars.
- Government and public programs: Public meetings, hearings, agency events, and training.
- Business and professional events: Conferences, webinars, presentations, and staff meetings.
- Remote and onsite events: Accessibility support tailored to a virtual platform or venue.
How our CART scheduling works
Share your schedule and access requirements. We assess captioner availability, event duration, time zone, and the technical arrangements needed for the meeting platform or onsite setting. When a project is confirmed, we coordinate the agreed participation method and any requested preparation information. Availability and pricing depend on the assignment.
CART compared with transcription and closed captioning
CART produces captions in real time as someone speaks. Transcription creates a written record from recorded audio or video. Closed captioning typically produces time-synchronized captions for video, including relevant non-speech audio. Subtitling may involve different-language text. LTS offers these as separate services; tell us whether your project is live or prerecorded.
Details to provide for a CART quote
- Date, start/end times, and time zone of every session
- Virtual platform or full event location
- Number of sessions, breaks, and approximate speaker count
- Caption display or platform integration needs
- Whether a final text transcript is required in addition to live captions
- Accessibility, security, or technical instructions from the event organizer
For multi-day events, please list each session separately. We will confirm the schedule, technical scope, and service terms before assignment.
